Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) — Simulering af emergent kompleksitet

Agent-baseret modellering (ABM) er en beregningsmæssig simuleringsmetode, formaliseret gennem arbejdet af Thomas Schelling og Robert Axelrod i 1970'erne-1990'erne, der simulerer komplekse systemers adfærd ved at specificere og køre autonome agenter — individer, firmaer, celler eller enhver afgrænset enhed — hvis lokale interaktioner med hinanden og med deres miljø kollektivt producerer globale mønstre på systemniveau, som ikke kunne forudsiges ud fra reglerne for en enkelt agent alene.
