Agent-baseret dynamisk programmering (ABDP) indlejrer Bellmans ramme for dynamisk programmering i individuelle agenter i en agent-baseret model, hvilket gør det muligt for hver agent at løse sekventielle, fler-trins beslutningsproblemer ved hjælp af bagudgående induktion eller værdifunktionsiteration. Resultatet er en population af optimerende agenter, hvis interaktioner genererer emergent systemadfærd.
