Daudzslāņu tīklu analīzē tiek pētītas sistēmas, kurās viens un tas pats mezglu kopums ir savienots ar vairākiem atšķirīgiem attiecību veidiem, katrs attēlots kā atsevišķs tīkla slānis. Analizējot slāņus vienlaicīgi, nevis izolēti, tiek atklāts, kā dažādi attiecību veidi mijiedarbojas, pastiprina viens otru vai kompensē viens otru starp tiem pašiem dalībniekiem vai vienībām.
