Directed Betweenness Centrality เป็นการขยายแนวคิดการวัดค่ากลาง (betweenness) แบบคลาสสิกของ Freeman ไปสู่กราฟที่มีทิศทาง โดยวัดว่าโหนดหนึ่งๆ ปรากฏอยู่บนเส้นทางที่สั้นที่สุดที่มีทิศทางระหว่างคู่โหนดอื่นๆ บ่อยเพียงใด ช่วยระบุตัวกลาง (gatekeepers) ผู้ประสานงาน (brokers) และคอขวด (bottlenecks) ในการไหลแบบไม่สมมาตร เช่น การแพร่กระจายของข้อมูล เครือข่ายการอ้างอิง และลำดับชั้นองค์กร
