Maskinlærings-augmentert grovkornet eksakt matching utvider grovkornet eksakt matching (Iacus, King & Porro, 2012) ved å bruke veiledet maskinlæring for å automatisere og optimalisere grovkorningstrinnet — diskretiseringen av kontinuerlige kovariater til grupper — i stedet for å stole på forskerspesifiserte grensepunkter. Dette reduserer både ad hoc-subjektivitet i grovkorneringsbeslutninger og gjenværende ubalanse, samtidig som CEMs kjerne-logikk om eksakt matching innenfor grovkornerte strata bevares.
