제도적 민족지학(IE)은 캐나다 사회학자 도로시 E. 스미스(Dorothy E. Smith)가 개발한 질적 연구 방법으로, 사람들의 일상생활이 제도적 텍스트, 규칙, 권력 관계에 의해 어떻게 형성되고 조정되는지를 조사합니다. 특정 관점에서 개인의 생생한 경험에서 시작하여, IE는 그들의 업무와 문제를 지배하는 사회적 조직을 추적하여 거시적 수준의 제도가 실제 사람들의 미시적 수준 활동을 통해 어떻게 작동하는지를 드러냅니다.
