Utafiti unaozingatia ubunifu (DBR) ni mbinu ya marudio, yenye kuingilia kati ambayo kwa wakati mmoja huunda suluhisho za kielimu na hujenga nadharia kuhusu jinsi na kwa nini suluhisho hizo hufanya kazi katika mazingira halisi na magumu. DBR, iliyoanzia majaribio ya darasani ya Ann Brown mwaka 1992 na kazi sambamba ya Allan Collins, huutendea mazingira ya kujifunzia kama kitu cha utafiti na pia kama mahali pa kutengeneza nadharia, ikipitia hatua za ubunifu, utekelezaji, uchambuzi, na uundaji upya hadi maboresho ya kivitendo na ufahamu wa kinadharia vifikiwe.
