Testiranje nulte hipoteze

Testiranje značajnosti nulte hipoteze (NHST) je dominantan statistički okvir u empirijskim istraživanjima. Nulta hipoteza (H₀) predstavlja podrazumevanu pretpostavku — obično 'nema efekta' ili 'nema razlike' — dok alternativna hipoteza (H₁) predstavlja tvrdnju koja se testira. Test izračunava verovatnoću posmatranja podataka pod pretpostavkom da je H₀ tačna (p-vrednost); ako je p vrlo mala, H₀ se odbacuje u korist H₁. Formulisana od strane Ronalda Fišera i proširena od strane Nejmna i Pirsona početkom 20. veka, NHST je temelj konfirmatornih istraživanja, ali je široko kritikovana zbog zloupotrebe i pogrešnog tumačenja.
