層序相関
層序相関とは、物理的または化学的な痕跡を追跡することによって、空間的に等価な岩層または年代層序ユニットを識別する手法である。19世紀のアルプス氷河堆積物に関する研究に端を発し、この手法は20世紀にVailのような地質学者によって形式化され、彼は地球規模の海面変動と堆積シーケンスを統合した。相関は、堆積物輸送、資源分布、古環境変動の盆地規模の理解の基礎となる。
