Metode Kontrol Sintetis Spasial mengadaptasi kerangka kerja kontrol sintetis klasik ke dalam pengaturan di mana unit yang diobati dan unit donor didefinisikan oleh lokasi geografis. Dengan membangun kombinasi berbobot dari wilayah kontrol yang berdekatan secara spasial atau sebanding, metode ini memperkirakan apa yang akan terjadi pada area yang diobati tanpa intervensi, sambil secara eksplisit memperhitungkan limpahan spasial, autokorelasi spasial, dan kekontiguan antar unit.
