Defining Interrelationships Between Ranked criteria

DIBR (Defining Interrelationships Between Ranked criteria) is a weight subjective multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method introduced by Pamučar, D., Žižović, M., Marinković, D., Doljanica, D. in 2021. It turns a decision matrix of alternatives scored on multiple criteria into a structured, reproducible result.

When to use it

DIBR requires only n−1 ratio judgements (no pairwise matrix). The formula directly ensures transitivity: w_j/w_{j+1} = φ_{j+1} for all adjacent pairs. It produces crisp weights with built-in consistency.

Strengths & limitations

Strengths
  • Follows a transparent, reproducible computational procedure that can be audited step by step.
  • Handles multiple criteria of differing scales and units within a single decision matrix.
Limitations
  • Results depend on the chosen normalisation, weights, and parameter settings.
