Simple Weight Calculation

SIWEC (Simple Weight Calculation) is a weight subjective multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method introduced by Puška, A. Nedeljković, M. Pamučar, D. Božanić, D. Simić, V. in 2024. It turns a decision matrix of alternatives scored on multiple criteria into a structured, reproducible result.

When to use it

Higher w_j = more important criterion. SIWEC advantage: experts do not need to rank or compare criteria pairwise — direct scoring suffices. The standard deviation σ_i reflects how much each expert differentiates between criteria; experts who rate all criteria equally contribute less weight.

Strengths & limitations

Strengths
  • Follows a transparent, reproducible computational procedure that can be audited step by step.
  • Handles multiple criteria of differing scales and units within a single decision matrix.
Limitations
  • Results depend on the chosen normalisation, weights, and parameter settings.
