L'aprenentatge automàtic semi-supervisat en línia combina la naturalesa incremental d'una sola passada de l'aprenentatge en línia amb la capacitat d'aprofitar dades no etiquetades al costat d'observacions etiquetades escasses. Està dissenyat per a entorns on les dades arriben com un flux i obtenir etiquetes per a cada instància és car o impracticable, com ara la classificació en temps real de contingut web, lectures de sensors o publicacions a les xarxes socials.
