Optimizacija zasnovana na surogatima — Dizajn potpomognut metamodelima

Optimizacija zasnovana na surogatima, formalizovana u okviru kompjuterskih eksperimenata Sacks-a et al. (1989) i popularizovana za inženjerstvo od strane Forrester-a et al. (2008), zamenjuje prekomerno skupu simulaciju ili fizički eksperiment jeftinim aproksimativnim modelom — nazvanim surogat ili metamodel — a zatim optimizuje taj surogat. Surogat je tipično Kriging (Gausov proces), funkcija radijalne baze ili polinomna odzivna površina, prilagođena malom skupu pažljivo odabranih evaluacija dizajna i periodično ažurirana kako pretraga napreduje.
