Bayesiaanse schaalontwikkeling past Bayesiaanse statistische inferentie toe op de constructie en evaluatie van psychometrische schalen. In plaats van te vertrouwen op enkelvoudige puntenschattingen van item- en persoonsparameters, produceert het volledige posterieure verdelingen die onzekerheid kwantificeren, voorkennis incorporeren en gefundeerde beslissingen ondersteunen over itembehoud, betrouwbaarheid en validiteit in kleine of complexe steekproeven.
