De Ruimtelijke Synthetische Controle Methode past het klassieke synthetische controle-raamwerk aan voor situaties waarin behandelde en donor-eenheden worden gedefinieerd door geografische locatie. Door een gewogen combinatie van ruimtelijk nabije of vergelijkbare controlegebieden te construeren, schat de methode wat er met een behandeld gebied zou zijn gebeurd zonder de interventie, terwijl geografische spillover-effecten, ruimtelijke autocorrelatie en contiguïteit tussen eenheden expliciet worden meegenomen.
