비교법
비교법(Comparative Method)은 역사 언어학에서 조상 언어를 재구성하고 관련 언어 간의 유전적 관계를 확립하는 기초적인 기법이다. 1786년 윌리엄 존스 경(Sir William Jones)이 개척한 이 방법은 음성학, 형태론, 어휘적 특징을 언어 전반에 걸쳐 체계적으로 비교하여 규칙적인 음성 대응을 식별하고 그 공유된 기원을 추적한다. 이 방법은 현대 역사 언어학의 근간을 이루며 전 세계 언어 계통을 이해하는 데 필수적이었다.
