층서 대비
층서 대비는 물리적 또는 화학적 흔적을 추적하여 공간적으로 동일한 암석층 또는 층서 단위를 식별하는 작업이다. 19세기 알프스 빙하 시퀀스에 대한 연구에 뿌리를 둔 이 방법은 20세기에 Vail과 같은 지질학자들에 의해 공식화되었으며, 그는 전 지구적 해수면 변화와 퇴적 시퀀스를 통합했다. 대비는 퇴적물 운송, 자원 분포, 고환경 변화에 대한 분지 규모의 이해에 기초가 된다.
