지질 매핑은 지표면에 노출된 암석 유형, 구조 및 관계를 체계적으로 관찰하고 문서화하는 작업입니다. 1799년 William Smith가 개척한 이 기본적인 현장 방법은 지하 지질학, 경제 지질학, 재해 평가 및 고환경 재구성을 이해하는 데 필수적입니다. 현대 매핑은 현장 관찰과 위성 이미지, 디지털 로그 및 GIS 기술을 통합하여 포괄적인 3차원 지질 프레임워크를 만듭니다.
