אתנוגרפיה מוסדית (IE) היא שיטת מחקר איכותנית שפותחה על ידי הסוציולוג הקנדי דורותי א. סמית', החוקרת כיצד חיי היומיום של אנשים מעוצבים ומתואמים על ידי טקסטים, כללים ויחסי כוח מוסדיים. החל מהחוויה הממשית של יחידים מנקודת מבט מסוימת, IE עוקבת אחר הארגון החברתי המנהל את עבודתם וקשייהם — וחושפת כיצד מוסדות ברמה המאקרו פועלים דרך פעילויות ברמה המיקרו של אנשים אמיתיים.
