Weighted Influence Non-linear Gauge System
WINGS (Weighted Influence Non-linear Gauge System) is a ranking multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method introduced by Michnik, J. in 2013. It turns a decision matrix of alternatives scored on multiple criteria into a structured, reproducible result.

When to use it
P_i (prominence) measures total influence — how much a criterion both sends and receives influence. E_i (relation) distinguishes cause (E>0, net sender) from effect (E<0, net receiver). WINGS extends DEMATEL by incorporating criterion strength (intensity/importance) separately from influence (direction/flow). The output is primarily used for criteria weighting and causal map construction, not directly for alternative ranking.
Strengths & limitations
- Follows a transparent, reproducible computational procedure that can be audited step by step.
- Handles multiple criteria of differing scales and units within a single decision matrix.
- Assumes full compensation — a strong score on one criterion can offset a weak score on another.
