Die Paneldaten-Synthetische-Kontrollmethode schätzt den kausalen Effekt einer Intervention auf eine einzelne behandelte Einheit, indem sie eine datengesteuerte gewichtete Kombination unbehandelter Einheiten – eine synthetische Kontrolle – konstruiert, die die Ergebnisverläufe der behandelten Einheit vor der Behandlung am besten reproduziert. Die Lücke zwischen der behandelten Einheit und ihrem synthetischen Gegenstück nach der Behandlung ist der geschätzte Behandlungseffekt.
