Hypotesetestning

Hypotesetestning (NHST) er det dominerende statistiske rammeværk i empirisk forskning. Nulhypotesen (H₀) repræsenterer standardantagelsen – typisk 'ingen effekt' eller 'ingen forskel' – mens alternativhypotesen (H₁) repræsenterer det påstand, der testes. Testen beregner sandsynligheden for at observere dataene givet, at H₀ er sand (p-værdi); hvis p er meget lille, forkastes H₀ til fordel for H₁. NHST, formuleret af Ronald Fisher og udvidet af Neyman og Pearson i starten af det 20. århundrede, er grundlæggende for konfirmatorisk forskning, men er blevet bredt kritiseret for misbrug og fejltolkning.
