Simulationsassisteret responsflademetodologi (SA-RSM) kombinerer computersimuleringsmodeller — såsom finite element-analyse, beregningsmæssig fluiddynamik eller diskret-event-simulering — med det statistiske rammeværk for responsflademetodologi for effektivt at kortlægge, modellere og optimere systemresponser. I stedet for at udføre fysiske eksperimenter udfører forskeren simuleringskørsler ved designpunkter foreskrevet af et RSM-design, tilpasser en polynomisk metamodel (surrogat) til simuleringsoutputtet og bruger denne metamodel til at finde optimale faktorindstillinger.
