Risikobaseret Response Surface Methodology (Risikobaseret RSM) udvider klassisk RSM ved at indlejre probabilistiske risiko- eller pålidelighedsbegrænsninger i den eksperimentelle optimeringsproces. I stedet for at søge et enkelt optimalt punkt under deterministiske forhold identificerer den faktorindstillinger, der opfylder ydelsesmål, samtidig med at sandsynligheden for fejl eller uacceptable udfald holdes under en specificeret tærskel – hvilket gør den særligt værdifuld i sikkerhedskritiske og højvariabilitetsingeniørkontekster.
