مسح المسافات
مسح المسافات هو طريقة إحصائية لتقدير وفرة السكان من بيانات المسافات بين المراقبين والأفراد المكتشفين. طُورت هذه الطريقة على يد باكْلاند وزملاؤه (1993) وتمت صياغتها رسميًا في برنامج Distance، وهي تأخذ في الاعتبار الاكتشاف غير الكامل: الحيوانات البعيدة عن المراقب أقل احتمالًا للاكتشاف. من خلال نمذجة دالة الاكتشاف (احتمالية اكتشاف حيوان على مسافات مختلفة)، ينتج مسح المسافات تقديرات غير متحيزة للوفرة والكثافة حتى عندما يكون الاكتشاف غير مكتمل.
