การตรวจจับชุมชนหลายชั้น (Multilayer community detection) เป็นการระบุกลุ่มของโหนด (nodes) ที่เชื่อมต่อกันอย่างหนาแน่นในความสัมพันธ์หลายประเภทพร้อมกัน โดยการเชื่อมโยงชั้นต่างๆ ของเครือข่าย เช่น ความสัมพันธ์ฉันมิตร คำแนะนำ และความร่วมมือ ทำให้สามารถค้นหาชุมชนที่มีความสอดคล้องกันไม่เพียงแต่ภายในประเภทความสัมพันธ์เดียว แต่ครอบคลุมทุกประเภท ซึ่งเผยให้เห็นโครงสร้างที่การวิเคราะห์แบบชั้นเดียวจะมองข้ามไป
