การอนุมานเชิงพื้นที่แบบเบย์ประยุกต์ใช้แบบจำลองลำดับชั้นแบบเบย์ (Bayesian hierarchical modeling) กับข้อมูลที่ถูกจัดทำดัชนีตามตำแหน่งทางภูมิศาสตร์ โดยการกำหนดค่าก่อน (prior) เชิงพื้นที่ที่มีโครงสร้างให้กับผลกระทบสุ่มที่ขึ้นกับตำแหน่ง จะช่วยให้แบบจำลองสามารถดึงข้อมูลจากภูมิภาคใกล้เคียงหรือจุดที่อยู่ใกล้กันมาใช้ ทำให้ได้แผนที่ที่มีความเรียบเนียนและมีการวัดปริมาณความไม่แน่นอนของผลลัพธ์ที่แปรผันตามพื้นที่ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นอัตราการเกิดโรค ระดับมลพิษ ความอุดมสมบูรณ์ของชนิดพันธุ์ หรือความเสี่ยงต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม
