Selulari otomata (CA) ni modeli ya simulizi ya kompyuta yenye msingi wa gridi, iliyoanzishwa kwanza na John von Neumann na Stanislaw Ulam katika miaka ya 1940–1950 na kuletwa kwa umakini mpana na Mchezo wa Maisha wa John Conway (1970) na uainishaji wa mfumo wa Stephen Wolfram (2002), ambapo gridi ya seli — kila moja ikiwa na hali ya kipekee iliyoainishwa — inabadilika kwa hatua za wakati zilizofafanuliwa kulingana na sheria za mwingiliano wa majirani, na kusababisha ruwaza tata za kimataifa kuibuka kutoka kwa vipimo rahisi vya ndani.
