Turbo kodiranje sa iterativnim dekodiranjem

Turbo kodovi, koje su predstavili Berrou, Glavieux i Thitimajshima 1993. godine, predstavljaju prekretnicu u istoriji kodiranja kanala. Oni postižu performanse unutar 0,5 dB Šenonove granice—teorijske granice za pouzdanu komunikaciju—što je ranije smatrano nemogućim uz praktičnu složenost. Turbo kodovi koriste konvolucione kodove spojene sa interleverom i iterativno dekodiranje putem propagacije verovatnoće. Usvojeni su u 3G (UMTS) sistemima i ostaju važni u 4G/5G sistemima, uz LDPC kodove.
