Statisk kodeanalyse undersøker automatisk kildekode uten kjøring, og oppdager potensielle feil, sikkerhetssårbarheter, kodlukt og stilbrudd. Pioneret av Engler og Pugh (2001), skanner automatiserte analyseverktøy kodbaser i stor skala, og identifiserer defektmønstre raskere enn manuell gjennomgang. Organisasjoner integrerer statisk analyse i kontinuerlige integrasjonspipeliner for å forhindre defekter tidlig.
