Optimalisering-assistert RSM kombinerer en andreordens responsoverflatemodell med en matematisk optimaliseringsrutine — oftest Derringer og Suichs ønskelighetsfunksjon, men også genetiske algoritmer eller gradientbaserte løsere — for å lokalisere faktorsetningene som samtidig tilfredsstiller flere kvalitets- eller ytelsesmål. Resultatet er en datadrevet anbefaling for optimale prosess- eller produktforhold, støttet av en polynomisk modell tilpasset et strukturert eksperimentelt design.
