Globale teledetectieclassificatie wijst elke pixel in een volledige afbeelding of wereldwijde dataset toe aan een discrete landbedekkings- of thematische klasse. Door de scène uniform te behandelen — in plaats van zich aan te passen aan lokale subregio's — vormt deze 'wall-to-wall'-benadering de basis voor continentale en mondiale landbedekkingsproducten zoals GlobCover, FROM-GLC en ESA CCI Land Cover.
