Institutionele etnografie — Een sociologie voor mensen
Institutionele etnografie (IE) is een kwalitatieve onderzoeksmethode, ontwikkeld door de Canadese sociologe Dorothy E. Smith, die onderzoekt hoe het dagelijks leven van mensen wordt gevormd en gecoördineerd door institutionele teksten, regels en machtsverhoudingen. Uitgaande van de geleefde ervaring van individuen vanuit een specifiek standpunt, spoort IE de sociale organisatie op die hun werk en problemen beheerst — en onthult hoe macro-niveau-instellingen opereren via de micro-niveau-activiteiten van echte mensen.
