종단적 구성주의 근거 이론은 연구자와 참여자 간의 의미의 공동 구축을 강조하는 캐시 샤마즈(Kathy Charmaz)의 구성주의적 근거 이론 변종과 다중 파동, 시간 확장 데이터 수집 설계를 결합한 것입니다. 단일 스냅샷을 포착하는 대신, 연구자는 두 개 이상의 시점에서 동일한 참여자에게 다시 방문하여, 생성되는 이론이 시간 경과에 따라 과정, 정체성 및 사회적 의미가 어떻게 발전, 변화 또는 안정화되는지를 추적할 수 있도록 합니다.
