Instrumental Case Study — Issue-Driven Case Research
Instrumental case study는 Robert E. Stake (1995)에 의해 형식화된 질적 연구 설계로, 특정 사례 자체가 본질적으로 중요하기 때문이 아니라 외부의 쟁점이나 이론적 질문에 대한 통찰력을 얻기 위해 주로 연구하는 것을 말합니다. 이 사례는 정책 문제, 이론적 명제 또는 일반화된 현상과 같이 더 넓은 것을 이해하기 위한 도구 역할을 합니다. 하나 또는 여러 사례는 해당 쟁점을 특히 잘 설명할 것으로 예상되기 때문에 선택되며, 연구자는 연구 전반에 걸쳐 사례와 쟁점 사이를 유연하게 이동합니다.
