컴퓨터화 적응 검사 (CAT)는 각 응시자의 잠재 능력에 대한 지속적인 추정치에 기반하여 컴퓨터 알고리즘이 연속적인 검사 문항을 선택하는 개별화된 평가 방법론입니다. 문항 반응 이론(Item Response Theory)에 근거한 CAT는 현재 능력 추정치에 비추어 각 질문이 최적으로 유익하도록 문항 순서를 동적으로 조정합니다. 이 프레임워크는 1990년에 처음 출판되고 2000년에 개정판으로 확장된 기초 입문서를 통해 Howard Wainer와 동료들에 의해 체계화되고 대중화되었습니다.
