순위 결정 다기준 의사결정(MCDM) 방법인 OWA(Ordered Weighted Averaging)는 1988년 Yager, R. R.가 도입했으며 GIS 확장은 1997년에 이루어졌습니다. 이 방법은 여러 기준에 대해 점수가 매겨진 대안들의 의사결정 행렬을 구조화되고 재현 가능한 결과로 변환합니다.
실제 의사결정에서는 서로 다른 척도로 측정된 여러 상충하는 기준들의 가중치를 고려해야 합니다. OWA는 직관에만 의존하는 대신, 이러한 기준들을 종합하여 방어 가능한 결과로 도출하는 투명하고 단계적인 절차를 제공합니다.
