デザインベース定量優先混合研究法は、自然な設定におけるデザイン、実装、改良の反復サイクルを含むデザインベース研究（DBR）の枠組みと、定量データの収集と分析が主要な証拠となる重みを持つ混合研究法アプローチを統合する。質的データは、反復的なデザインサイクル全体を通じて、定量的知見を照らし出し、説明し、あるいは改良するために、補助的な役割で収集される。
