The instrument measures exhaustion (physical, emotional, cognitive) and disengagement (cynicism, reduced motivation) in working populations. It is grounded in the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) theory and is widely used in European occupational health research and practice. | The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) is the most widely used instrument for measuring occupational burnout—a syndrome of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment in response to chronic workplace stress.
