Funkcionalno projektiranje kvalitete temeljeno na riziku (Risk-based QFD) integrira formalnu analizu rizika — najčešće Analizu načina i posljedica otkazivanja (FMEA) ili matrične analize rizika — u klasični QFD okvir Kuće kvalitete. Vaganjem korisničkih zahtjeva i inženjerskih značajki prema njihovim povezanim rizicima otkazivanja, timovi prioritiziraju odluke o dizajnu i procesu ne samo prema važnosti za kupca, već i prema potencijalnoj šteti, regulatornom izlaganju ili utjecaju na pouzdanost. Široko se koristi u razvoju automobilskih, zrakoplovnih, medicinskih i industrijskih proizvoda.
