המודל המבני השולי המרחבי (Spatial MSM) מרחיב את המודל המבני השולי הקלאסי למצבים שבהם יחידות מפוזרות גיאוגרפית ותלויות מרחביות — כגון השפעות שכונתיות, צבירה ובלבול מרחבי — עלולות להטות אומדנים סיבתיים. הוא מעריך השפעות סיבתיות של חשיפות משתנות מרחבית על ידי בניית משקולות הסתברות הפוכות המתחשבות גם במתערבים אינדיבידואליים וגם במיקום המרחבי, ואז התאמת מודל תוצאה משוקלל באוכלוסייה המדומה המתקבלת.
