Ekman Transport

Ekman transport er den netto volumenstrøm af vand, der drives af vindpåvirkning afbalanceret med Coriolis-kraften i det øverste grænselag. Ekman transport, der blev udledt af Vagn Walfrid Ekman i 1905 ud fra princippet om, at vindpåvirkning transmitteres gennem vandsøjlen i et spiralformet mønster, er ansvarlig for kystopvelling og vigtige oceanografiske transporter. Teorien forbinder overfladiske vindmønstre direkte med havstrømning.
