Kausal formidlingsanalyse (naturlige direkte og indirekte effekter)

Kausal formidlingsanalyse er et kontrafaktisk rammeværk, der opdeler en behandlings totale effekt i en naturlig direkte effekt (NDE) og en naturlig indirekte effekt (NIE), der løber gennem en mediator. Den moderne generelle tilgang blev formaliseret af Pearl (2001) og Imai, Keele og Tingley (2010), hvilket giver dekomponeringen en præcis kausal fortolkning.
