বেয়েশীয় ডিফারেনশিয়াল আইটেম ফাংশনিং বিশ্লেষণ পরীক্ষা করে যে একটি পরীক্ষার আইটেম জনসংখ্যাগত বা সাংস্কৃতিক গোষ্ঠীগুলির মধ্যে — যেমন পুরুষ বনাম মহিলা — অন্তর্নিহিত ক্ষমতা বা পরিমাপ করা বৈশিষ্ট্য বিবেচনা করার পরে ভিন্নভাবে আচরণ করে কিনা। এটি প্রতিটি গোষ্ঠীর জন্য পৃথকভাবে আইটেম প্যারামিটারের পশ্চাৎ বিতরণ (posterior distributions) পেতে বেয়েশীয় আইআরটি অনুমান প্রয়োগ করে, তারপর ক্লাসিক্যাল p-মানগুলির পরিবর্তে পশ্চাৎ বিশ্বাসযোগ্যতা ব্যবধান (posterior credibility intervals) বা বেয়েশ ফ্যাক্টরগুলির সাথে গোষ্ঠীগত পার্থক্যগুলি মূল্যায়ন করে।
