মাল্টি-গ্রুপ ডিফারেনশিয়াল আইটেম ফাংশনিং পরীক্ষা করে যে কোনও পরীক্ষা বা স্কেলের আইটেমগুলি তিনটি বা ততোধিক স্বতন্ত্র গোষ্ঠীর — যেমন লিঙ্গ, জাতি, বা দেশ — মধ্যে সমতুল্যভাবে কাজ করে কিনা, পরিমাপ করা অন্তর্নিহিত বৈশিষ্ট্যের উপর উত্তরদাতাদের মিলানোর পরে। যে আইটেমগুলি গোষ্ঠীগুলির মধ্যে ভিন্নভাবে আচরণ করে তা ন্যায্য পরিমাপ এবং বৈধ স্কোর তুলনাকে হুমকির মুখে ফেলে।
