This selective clearing strategy minimizes service disruption and is achieved by carefully coordinating pickup currents and time delays across a series of relays. It is fundamental to reliable power system operation.Fault analysis determines the magnitude and distribution of currents and voltages during abnormal conditions in power systems, such as short circuits. Using Fortescue's symmetrical components method (1918), engineers calculate fault currents to design protection relays and equipment ratings. It is essential for ensuring safe and reliable power system operation.
