摘要The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) is a brief, 30-point screening instrument developed by Folstein, Folstein, and McHugh in 1975 to assess cognitive function in clinical settings. It is designed to detect cognitive impairment and monitor cognitive decline over time, particularly in older adults and patients with suspected dementia. The MMSE remains one of the most widely used cognitive screening tools in primary care, neurology, and geriatric medicine worldwide. The Saint Louis University Mental Status Examination (SLUMS) is a brief, clinician-administered cognitive screening instrument developed by Tariq and colleagues at Saint Louis University in 2006. It was designed as an alternative to the MMSE with improved sensitivity to mild cognitive impairment and early dementia. The SLUMS includes items assessing orientation, attention, memory, and executive function, and is particularly useful in older adult populations in primary care and geriatric settings.
