การศึกษา Nested Case-Control เชิงปฏิบัติ (pragmatic nested case-control study) เป็นการวิเคราะห์แบบ case-control ที่ฝังอยู่ภายในกลุ่มประชากรตามรุ่น (cohort) ในโลกแห่งความเป็นจริงที่มีอยู่แล้ว ซึ่งโดยทั่วไปได้มาจากบันทึกสุขภาพอิเล็กทรอนิกส์ (electronic health records) ข้อมูลการเรียกร้องค่ารักษาพยาบาล (administrative claims) หรือทะเบียนผู้ป่วย (disease registries) เพื่อตรวจสอบความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างปัจจัยเสี่ยงและผลลัพธ์ภายใต้สภาวะทางคลินิกตามปกติ กลุ่มควบคุมจะถูกสุ่มตัวอย่างจากชุดความเสี่ยง (risk set) (ผู้ที่ยังคงมีความเสี่ยง ณ เวลาที่แต่ละกรณีเกิดขึ้น) ซึ่งช่วยรักษาระดับความสัมพันธ์เชิงเวลาในขณะที่ลดต้นทุนการเก็บข้อมูลลงอย่างมากเมื่อเทียบกับการวิเคราะห์กลุ่มประชากรตามรุ่นแบบเต็มรูปแบบ
