ความชัดเจนของการพูด คือ การวัดเชิงปริมาณว่าผู้ฟังเข้าใจเนื้อหาที่พูดได้ดีเพียงใดในสภาพแวดล้อมทางเสียง การทำให้เป็นรูปธรรมโดย Steeneken และ Houtgast ในปี 1980 ด้วยดัชนีการส่งผ่านคำพูด (Speech Transmission Index - STI) ตัวชี้วัดความชัดเจนจะรวมพารามิเตอร์อะคูสติกของห้อง (RT60, เสียงรบกวน, ความชัดเจน) เพื่อคาดการณ์ความเข้าใจของผู้ฟัง การทำความเข้าใจความชัดเจนของการพูดเป็นสิ่งจำเป็นสำหรับการออกแบบห้องเรียน สำนักงาน เครื่องช่วยฟัง และระบบกระจายเสียงสาธารณะที่การสื่อสารที่ชัดเจนมีความสำคัญ
